Hello, I'm Harriet
The maker behind HER Ceramics.
I’m incredibly lucky to work from my home studio on Ynys Môn, the Isle of Anglesey, in North Wales. Working primarily with stoneware clay, I create contemporary ceramic pieces for the home—from mugs, cups and tableware, to sculptural vases, lamps, and other unique objects. I ultimately aim to create work that blends aesthetic beauty and energy with utility, often incorporating organic colours, textures and accents that connect each piece to the natural world. I seek influence from the elegance and purpose of East Asian ceramics, considering not only how a piece looks but also how it feels, functions, and interacts with its environment. I’m particularly interested in the meaningful relationships we develop with the objects we use every day; how we assign meaning to inanimate objects through use, and what encourages that connection — perhaps memory, place, feel, or reverence for nature. I see these emotional associations as key to creating alternatives to rapid consumption and mass production, where objects gain value through use rather than novelty. I aim to create work that invites closer attention and accumulates meaning over time.
I craft each design with care and attention, making only a few pieces at a time. This approach allows my work to evolve gradually, as I experiment with new techniques and continue to develop my own glazes. It’s a process of constant exploration and refinement—both in the studio and through ongoing study—that ensures my collections are always growing and shifting.
