Kurinuki box 5

A unique hand-carved kurinuki box made from stoneware clay. 

Carved from a single semi-hardened block of clay using traditional Japanese kurinuki technique, the box retains the marks of the tools and the shaping process. Each surface, texture and edge is unique to the piece. This item was fired in a Girel 3E wood kiln with a combination of carefully developed glazes made from raw materials, copper carbonate, iron oxide and wood ash. The wood firing adds natural variation in colour and surface, with subtle ash deposits and flame markings.

This box is lined with a food-safe glaze and is perfect for holding small objects, salt or spices, or simply as a standalone piece.
